I Kissed Dating Goodbye
By Joshua Harris; Multnomah Books (Questar Publishers);
1997, 228
This particular book review is in response to Debbie Goff's article Choosing
the Right Mate (Series, January 10) The book title is I Kissed Dating
Goodbye by Joshua Harris. It is about putting your love life under the
authority of God's will. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for an
alternative to dating, as opposed to the world's standards on the subject. It is
very helpful in giving advice to singles on how to put God in control of
decisions regarding choosing the right mate, how to prepare for that special
someone, and what to do to redeem the time until you meet that special person.
It has helped change my perspective on the subject in several ways. It has
opened my eyes to some things I didn't realize about myself and how I should
prepare myself for my future spouse. It also touches on how you should approach
guy/girl friendships by keeping them in their proper perspective. A highly
recommended book to anyone who is looking for another way other than the playing
"dating game."
Hinds Feet on High Places
By Hannah Hurnard; Living Books (Tyndale House); 1975, 254
pages
Another great book is Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard.
This book is about completely surrendering yourself to God. It is fiction, but the
principle can be applied in your life. It showed me how untrusting I can be at
times when the situation doesn't look too good. It also helps readers learn how to surrender their
will to that of the Lord's.
Daddy Loves His Girls
By T.D. Jakes; Creation House; 1996, 165 pages
Ladies, this one is for you! Bishop T.D. Jakes writes words of encouragement
for women of all ages, races, creeds, and nationalities in Daddy Loves His
Girls. This book was written to minister to the woman's soul (sorry guys,
you won't get much out of this one!).
Simply stated, Daddy Loves His Girls touches on just that: God's love
for His daughters. Bishop Jakes addresses issues which affect women in today's
society. Speaking from my own experience, it has really encouraged me in knowing
that I am "His girl" and that He loves me unconditionally. The past
several years of my life have been especially hard and 1999 was no exception.
This book encouraged me through a particularly rough time in my life.
So whether you're hurt and abused, discouraged and confused, or simply need
to be reassured of God's unconditional love, this book is for you. It will help
you determine God's will and to seek His direction. I strongly encourage all women to read
this book.
