A Deeper Faith II, John Tesh

This is a worship album that introduces new music as well as reintroduces some old favorites. It hit the shelves about two weeks ago along with John Tesh’s new book, The Power of Prayer and Worship. “Both of these projects,” comments Tesh, “the music and the book, were created simultaneously, and have grown out of my extreme love and respect for the power of worship music and prayer.”

A Deeper Faith II is a powerful testimony of Tesh’s desire to create, reflect, and produce worship. You may not realize it, but Tesh has had a successful music career for the past 25 years. Besides two Grammy nominations, three gold albums, six Emmys, three hit PBS (music) specials, and TV work, Tesh is the music director for his church in Sherman Oaks, California.

The CD includes songs like We Fall Down, Hungry, God of Wonders, Joy, and Pour Out Your Spirit.

■  We Fall Down expresses our deepest desire to fall at the feet of Jesus. “We fall down / We lay our crowns at the feet of Jesus / The greatness of mercy and love at the feet of Jesus / We cry Holy, Holy, Holy (X3) is the lamb” Who wouldn’t want to fall at the feet of Jesus during that?

■  Joy is just that; it is a very pop-style worship song. It takes a little different turn by asking God to allow us to be a joy to Him. “Let me be a shining light to you / Let me be a joy always.” Joy is more a song of thanks and giving back what has been given. It is asking God to allow us to say thank you for saving us and our expression of worship and gratefulness for all that He has done.

This album is definitely not a display of Tesh’s greatness or a showy CD of his accomplishments. He truly allows God to be the focus of A Deeper Faith II by allowing other voices to have their chance to express their desire to worship. Several of the songs have lead vocals sung by others; Hungry lead vocalist Leann Albrecht is more up-tempo, but still expresses that deep desire to fall at the feet of Jesus. It is a beautiful song that speaks of Jesus being “all this heart is living for.”

I really appreciate Tesh’s desire to express his love and passion for worship and prayer. A Deeper Faith II is a delightful arrangement of deep and light-hearted songs of worship. If you enjoy Michael W. Smith, Nicole Mullens, and Third Day, you will enjoy Tesh’s A Deeper Faith II.
