Have You Any Meat?
October 15, 2007
By Debbie Meyer
I was awakened this morning by a dream. Maybe it was the fact
that my husband and I had talked about the pork we had in our freezer before we
fell asleep last night. I don’t know, but it has stirred me deep within.
The Dream
I dreamed there were people on their hands and knees, starving
for food. I had meat in my hands, raw meat. I was breaking it up and giving it
to them, just as a person would throw food to an animal. My heart was so torn
because I didn’t have enough. They were so hungry, and I couldn’t give them
enough. One lady had a piece right by her on the ground, but she didn’t see it
in time and someone else got it before she could.
Someone else was sitting, cleaning gold coins, while trying to
hide the coins from the others. I was upset and asked them why he couldn’t go
buy food for the people. Surely we could give them more meat with the gold he
had.
The Meaning
I am not one who thinks every dream has a meaning, but I told a
friend about the dream. She said that I have shared the Word of God boldly with
people, and maybe some will be so hungry they will take it raw.
There are people in this world, I believe more than we can
imagine, who are starving spiritually. They are asking us, “Have you any meat?”
They don’t want to wait for us to dress it up first. They are crying out, “Just
give me some meat!” They abandon all pride and are willing to crawl on their
knees even for raw meat.
The Word of God Is the Meat
This meat is the Word of God. God desires that we eat the meat of
His Word. We live in a world today without the meat of God’s Word. Many want to
dress it up and make it more fitting to their lifestyle. They don’t want to have
to change their lives; they want to change the meat. But God said not one word
of His will would pass away; He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His
Word will not conform to anyone; we must conform to His Word.
Do we really hunger for the Word of God in our life or do we only
want it as long as it doesn’t require anything of us? The Word of God, the raw
truth, requires something from us. His Word feeds us, but, most of all, it
changes us. You can’t digest the truth and not be changed.
Sometimes it is hard to swallow if we’re not really hungry.
Sometimes the Word is hard to swallow because it challenges what we grew up
believing. It challenges our present lifestyle. It doesn’t always agree with
what we have always thought to be true. So it is hard to swallow. Only the truly
hungry can digest those parts.
My eyes are open today to the desperation I saw on the faces of
those in my dream. They wanted the meat raw.
Meat with Fillers
There is a church on every street corner today. Many offer the
commodities that we have come to enjoy. Padded pews, beautiful buildings, music
that sounds like a heavenly choir. With all the grandeur of what they appear to
offer, however, they pass out to those listening to them meat filled with
fillers. It has a little bit of meat, the Word of God, mixed in with their own
philosophies and religious teachings—teaching rooted in traditions of men and
not in the Word of God, cooked and seasoned to taste so appetizing to those who
are listening. They offer what appears to be the best, but when the people leave
they still feel unsatisfied.
People have become so accustomed to being told what they want to
hear and given the meat fillers, that there is no real hunger for the true meat,
the undiluted Word of God. They don’t have that desperation or hunger for the
truth because they have become satisfied with being unsatisfied.
Feeding the Hungry
It is good to share the truth and lay a foundation for others to
receive the Word of God, but there are some that don’t care if it is all laid
before them like a banquet. They may not have time for us to prepare it all up
and make sure it is eloquently delivered before we give it to them. We may just
have to give it to them raw. They are desperate to be fed! They’re asking us the
question today: “Have you any meat?”
Then there are some who already have the Word of God, sitting
with their gold coins. Cleaning them and shining them. Proud of what they found.
The problem is they are not sharing their wealth with those who are sitting
around them starving. I don’t want to be that person!
Jesus told Peter that if he loved Him to feed His sheep. If we
love Jesus, we will feed His sheep. We will tell somebody what the Lord has done
for us. We will share the Gospel of His death, burial, and resurrection. We will
feed them till they have repented of their sins (identifying with his death),
been baptized in Jesus name (identifying with His burial), and are filled with
the Holy Ghost (identifying with His resurrection).
We have gold in our hands. We have all we need to feed the lost.
It is not time to sit by the side of the road and watch the hungry, starving
souls crawl on their hands and knees looking for a morsel of food. It is time
that we give out what has been given to us. As we feed them, God will replenish
us.
