Blake Bollinger —No Holiday

The Blake Bollinger Band seeks to reach audiences with their
guitar-driven rock mixed with smooth harmonies and catchy melodies. Made up of
four guys, Blake, Chris, Jody, and Time, this contemporary pop-rock group tries
to create excitement and energy in concert. According to the press release, the
group challenges its listeners to look deeper in their hearts for the answers to
life’s tough questions. Bollinger states, “The young people of our generation
can have a hope and a future. There is more to this life than the here and now
in the pursuit of self. We can truly know our destination and have a purpose for
life on earth. This is the Blake Bollinger Band.”
All songs on the album were written and performed by Bollinger,
who has a clear voice and refreshingly clear diction. The songs cover a variety
of styles within the rock genre, from the typical driving rock sounds of “Time”
and “Glitter” to the mid-tempo, acoustic guitar accompaniment of “No Holiday”
and the convicting message of “Tell the World,” challenging us to tell others of
the impact of the Christian message on our lives. Several songs come from the
perspective of God speaking to us, such as “Free,” which asks the listener from
where they are seeking their satisfaction – God or the world?
Bollinger has a gift for asking the hard questions of life and
putting them into a catchy, workable lyric. As with many artists today, however,
there is a decided lack of a clear, Christian message. These songs would
certainly work if one knew beforehand the purpose of the album and its intended
audience. As with others, I would like a clearer, more straightforward inclusion
of the Christian message. With Bollinger’s obvious songwriting abilities, I
believe he could be very successful in including this message.
