Reader's responses to The Big Question.

The Question:  Why did the serpent tempt Eve and not Adam in the garden?

The Answer:  “I'm not sure. Maybe he saw Eve first. I typically think it's because God specifically spoke to Adam and said not to eat the fruit, but he never (as far as we know) spoke those words to Eve.  It's easier to fall when you aren't sure what God's words actually were. This principle is still in effect today--if one does not get a word from God for himself, it is much easier to doubt what the promises of God are.”

The Answer:  “She must have been closer to the tree.”

The Answer:  “Women are weaker than men...duh!”

The Answer:  “That is just the way it was--why does there have to be a why?”

The Answer:  “The snake was thinking of all the messages a male preacher could come up with because of a female mistake.”

The Answer:  “Eve was the pretty one.”

The Answer:  “Most men are afraid of snake-like creatures.”

The Answer:  “Ha ha! I can't wait to read the responses to this one.”

The Answer:  “Because it would have been easier for Eve to convince Adam to disobey than for Adam to convince Eve or Adam heard the command from God and would not even listen to the advice of a stranger about it, but Eve did not have that relationship, so she agreed to disobey God and was able to convince her husband.”

The Answer:  “She was the weaker vessel.”

The Answer:  “Eve was a new creation of God; all of God's creation was masculine and it fascinated Lucifer to approach this new creature.”
